Christian Giving Challenges

Christians are called to be different in attitudes towards and use of money.

Introduction

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." (Colossians 3:2, NIV)
Christians are called to be different. Can we break the grip the world has on us?
The purpose of the Give Higher challenges is to encourage you to think about the use of your God-given money. Our apologies if the word 'challenge' brings up thoughts of competition. Christian giving is not about competition.

Consideratons before Giving

God is more concerned about your faith than your giving.

without faith it is impossible to please God
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

God is more concerned about your obedience than your sacrifices.

Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice ...
1 Samuel 15:22 (NIV )

The amount you give is not a true reflection of generousity.

As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 'Truly I tell you,' he said, 'this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.'
Luke 21:1-4 (NIV )

God wants us to give with humility and in silence.

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others
Matthew 6:2 (NIV )
Something is wrong when our lives make sense to unbelievers.

If you read history you will find that Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.
