We proclaim Him, warning and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ. I labor for this, striving with His strength that works powerfully in me. Colossians 1:28-29
Portugal is a beautiful coastal country in Europe that is rich in history, delicious food, warm locals, and steeped in Catholic history and tradition. Although most people have heard of Jesus, very few people would acknowledge him as their Lord and only Savior since the traditions of Catholicism and growing secularism have undermined his relevance. Only 0.4% of the 10 million people in Portugal are Evangelical Christian, and this percentage has been decreasing. But God has been raising up a new generation of young Christian leaders through the ministry of the university bible groups across the country, the Grupo Bíblico Universitário (GBU).
Samuel and Emily are preparing for long-term gospel work in Portugal with the GBU and local churches. Samuel was born and grew up in Portugal and with the encouragement of Matthew George (ECM Australia Director and former ECM missionary in Portugal), came to Australia in 2015 to be trained for Christian ministry in Portugal. During his time in Australia, he met and married Emily, who also has a passion to see young people transformed by the gospel through university ministry.
To prepare for Christian ministry in Portugal, Samuel is currently working as a Ministry Apprentice with the Sydney University Evangelical Union where he pastors, trains and teaches students from the bible at Sydney University. Emily is studying theology at Sydney Missionary and Bible College whilst working part-time as a Pharmacist.
