Why Vanuatu?

There is no doubt that the gospel of our Lord Jesus has had a profound and transformative impact on this South Pacific nation over the past 160 years. But globalisation is rapidly changing this country. This has brought incredible blessings, but at the same time, traditional village life has been irreversibly altered. The cultural, social, and religious fabric of Vanuatu society is experiencing significant changes. Thus, the Church faces the difficult yet important challenge of taking the unchanging gospel to a swiftly changing world. The Church in Vanuatu has a rich heritage, but her faithfulness and fruitfulness in the decades ahead depends upon her next generation of leaders.

Why Theological Education?

One of the most strategic ways we can bless the South Pacific is by partnering with the local Church in equipping the next generation of pastors, evangelists, and Church workers to ensure they are thoroughly equipped to face the significant changes ahead. Therefore, as partner church missionaries with the Australian Presbyterian World Mission (APWM) we will be living and ministering at Talua Theological Training Institute, the main ministry training college of the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu.

Our prayer is that we can help contribute to a generation of Church leaders who have:

  • a deep love for God and neighbour,
  • a rich knowledge of God and his Word in the Bible, and
  • all the pastoral skills and competencies to lead, teach, care, protect and grow God’s Church in the 21st century.

in Vanuatu has a rich heritage, but her faithfulness and fruitfulness in the decades ahead depends upon her next generation of leaders.

What will life look like at Talua?

Talua is a residential college, so we will be living on site with all the other staff and students. As a family, we are strongly committed to doing life alongside the staff, students and families, modelling a life centred on Jesus.Rob will be teaching biblical studies and theology, and with El, will be pastorally caring for students and their families. El will be predominantly home-schooling the kids, but also hopes to find opportunities to use her nursing and midwifery skills at Talua and in the rural communities nearby.

Will you partner with us?

We have a deep conviction that God is calling us as a family to ministry in Vanuatu. But we cannot do the Lord's work at Talua without significant prayer and financial support. Our goal is to leave for Vanuatu in early 2021, and therefore, we are fervently praying that we are able to form a team of prayer partners for this gospel work, and that 100% of the financial needs for our ministry are met by Deember 2020. We want to invive you to partner with us in God's mission at Talua! WIll you help us equip the next generation of gospel-centred leaders for God's Church in Vanuatu?
